Technology as it changes the world

If you haven’t already noticed, the world around us is constantly changing, and the continuous advances in communication and media brings curiosity to how things we will be living 20 years from now.

As I have mentioned in earlier blogs, the creation of websites such as Myspace.com, Facebook.com, and Twitter.com have already changed the way we communicate and keep in touch with one another. Years ago our only way of keeping in-touch with one another was by phone or letter, now we can send messages electronically through the internet. Websites such as Facebook and Myspace allow you to not only send email, but you connect with friends of past and present, family, and even make new friends. You can send instant messages to one another if you both are connected on the website, and you can also share pictures and moments of your life with everyone. Social networking websites such as these are constantly advancing and creating more avenues for people to stay in touch with one another. Websites such as Ustream.com have recently become popular because they allow video chats between two people. It’s difficult to imagine how these social networking sites will allow us to communicate 20 years from now.

Our advances in technology have started to convince many businesses to take advantage in the internet. These businesses, and even schools, are now using the internet to make life easier and more convenient for people. Many people have stopped buying CD’s from the store and started buying them online. College students are now starting to buy text books online instead of going to the store, companies are starting to publish their books online, and many teachers have started creating online classes so that they never have to get out of bed to teach, you the teacher communicate simply through electronic mail.

These advances are starting to make life a lot easier, but you have to ask the question, will they take things to far 20 years from now? I hope that I am not around to see technology get out of hand, and get to the point where people have begun to install computer chips in their brain, but I do hope to see technology do more to help benefit the world and help everyone in it live a better life.
