“The Twouble with Twitter” YouTube video analysis

Social Networking sites such as Myspace.com and Facebook.com have grown over the years to become culture phenomenon. People from all over the world with different backgrounds and ages, have joined these sites in-order to connect or re-connect with friends, family, co-workers and associates. Lately however, a new social networking site called Twitter.com has begun to take over and become extremely popular. The site allows you to share what you are thinking or doing at any time of the day ,in a small box called a “status bar”. Many people seem to really enjoy sharing their lives on this website; others think it is a waste of time. Youtube.com provides a very entertaining animated video that informs the viewer what Twitter is, and why so many people enjoy being part of it. My analysis of the video points out important scenes that highlight important factors of the communication aspect of Twitter, and how it is changing it.

This particular video starts off with two animated cartoon work colleagues beginning their day. One of the workers, named Craig, is really into Twitter and communicating with the world, while his co-worker Eric is not. Craig transport Eric to a make believe place called the “Twittersphere,” which would be Twitter website if it were a real place. It is consumed with a random assortment of people shouting out the messages that would normally be written in their status bar. As Craig explained what Twitter is to Eric, I found one of the scenes to be very interesting. The scene involved the three individuals, a professor, an Asian gentleman, and a young woman who are telling their messages. What is significant about this part is not so much what the three people are saying, but the fact that Twitter has connected so many different people with different social and ethnic backgrounds, and everyone on Twitter seems to have a good time connecting with one another.

In this area people love to communicate with one another, wither it be over cell phones, text message, or the internet. As the video progresses, there is a scene where the people of the Twittersphere become disconnected with one another causing utter chaos. The animated characters run around in a frenzy and some even get killed. This scene pokes fun at how some people may carry on like the world has come to an end if they are disconnected from the world of Twitter; however, when you really think about it, many of the non-Twiter uses feel this way if they are unable to use their cell phones, or if their internet is down.

We are a society obsessed with communicating with one another and finding new ways to do it, and as time moves on, more and more social networking websites will be created to help us do this. This animated video speaks to everyone because it shows how technology and communication is constantly changing. There are many different opinions in the world in regards to Twitter, but it is simply a fun new way to communicate, and no matter how people may feel about it, there is no doubt that Twitter will be around for a long time.
